New Zealand Roadmap 2027

Choose the operating plan

Switching plans updates flights, transport, activity dates, overnight options, the master route and every day card.

Hybrid South Island direction

Switch off for West Coast first. Switch on to begin at Lake Tekapo, continue through Mt Cook and return through the West Coast and Arthur's Pass.

Timing policy used throughout

Ordinary days use wake and departure windows, not military-style minute rules. Early alarms appear only for a booked attraction, flight, ferry, dawn objective, tide window, long alpine access or the international departure.

Private-camp late arrival rule

Reaching a private campground at 19:00, 20:00 or later can be fine only when late self check-in or a late-arrival procedure is confirmed in advance. DOC sites and individual properties can have different rules.

Flexible morning

No need to wake at 06:00 merely because it is a road-trip day.

Required early start

Used only where a booking, dawn, tide, ferry, long trail or flight genuinely requires it.

Late campground arrival

Acceptable at private parks only after the property confirms how to enter and where to park.
